How to deal with lazy people & stop being lazy

The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich, Proverbs 13, 4.

What is right is often forgotten by what is convenient, Bodie Thoene.

The lazy person is unwilling to work hard. Rather than seizing the day, they waste time, energy, and opportunities by not using or under using their skills and talents. They won’t do their job efficiently. They are slow, unreliable, and usually make senseless and absurd excuses when they don’t get the job done. Utterly incompetent and lazy co-workers cause stress and tension at work because their laziness produces a much heavier workload for their colleagues. They will reduce their team’s satisfaction, performance, and effectiveness.

However, it is also important to know when to rest and unwind (e.g., meditation, yoga, prayer, spending time in nature, hobbies, etc.), how to prioritize and focus on your goals. You should find ways to work less and smarter, not work more and harder. Learn to be creative and resourceful in getting what you need for less time, money, and effort.

How to deal with lazy people & stop being lazy

  1. Mind your own business, focus on your work. You are not going to change them so you need to accept them as they are.
  2. Use time management tools to be more productive and monitor your employees’ progress and productivity. Set clear and achievable goals. Make sure that tasks, processes, deadlines, meetings, etc. are well-defined, understood, and organized, and stick to them, so that problems and their causes are easily identified when they occur.
  3. Lead by example. Be better than those you despise or criticize, willing to do whatever it takes to get things done. Be consistent in your communication and actions.
  4. Monitor their work and progress on a regular basis. Review their responsibilities and roles and dialogue continuously with them about how they feel their work is going.
  5. Provide them with the tools and training needed to feel confident and get their job done.
  6. Discuss incentives and opportunities for career growth to motivate them.
  7. You can try to show them what their peers are doing and the consequence of their actions, shrink their teams, make the relationships between coworkers stronger, and assign them unique and specific responsibilities, tasks, and roles, so their input is clearly visible, quantifiable, and evaluable.
  8. Besides, encourage autonomy, be patience, offer positive reinforcement, sincere compliments, and constructive feedback, keep a cool, clean, and comfortable office space, upgrade your company’s technology, and improve overall communication.
  9. As a last resort, you need to let them know that you are monitoring their performance and productivity regularly, and that you are willing to reward results or help them grow elsewhere.
  10. How to stop being lazy and unproductive? Create a plan, break it all the way down into small achievable goals and daily activities, then stick to it. Be positive, focus on your strengths, goals, and continuos improvement by slowly adjusting your everyday habits and actions. Eat a more healthy and balanced diet, try to sleep at least seven or eight hours a day, live a more active lifestyle and exercise as regularly as you can.
